In this wonderful story, Elizabeth Enright brings us into the world of the Melendy children. This historical fiction book takes us back to the 1940's, and encourages children to be creative and adventurous.
One Saturday afternoon, the Melendy children - thirteen-year-old Mona, twelve-year-old Rush, ten-year-old Randy (a girl), and six-year-old Oliver - are bored until Randy comes up with a brilliant idea. Each child gets a quarter for his or her allowance so they will combine their money and one child a week will get the pooled money to spend any way they'd like. Now with something to look forward to on the weekend, each child feverishly plans for their Saturday.
This was an excellent book full of creativity, mishaps, and a small lesson in finances. I would most definitely recommend this book to anyone. It is a great read for children, teens, and adults alike.
